Many Moms & Dads
Most of us are familiar with the expression It takes a
village to raise a child, but how many of us really follow this tenet? Many
hold jealously to their title of mom or dad without a thought of what those
names mean to their children.
With so many single parent families existing today, it is even more essential to find or create our village to support us as parents, and, more importantly, to nurture our children.
No matter how great a parent, none of us can do it alone. We were never meant to. We need to allow others to actively participate in the raising of our children. When a stranger goes out of their way to remove our child from a potentially hazardous situation, or correct them when they are obviously misbehaving, we need not be offended. It is not a reflection on our parenting skills, rather another member of the village helping us to protect and guide our future. Your child is not yours alone, but an essential building block of our society. We need a solid foundation, and so do they.
